Interview with MomPreneur Suzanne Remington, Owner of the Boy’s Store
Family Stats and ages: Married with an 11 year old daughter and a 7 1/2 year old son.
Why did you decide to become an entrepreneur? I ran my first business when I was twelve, I was emulating my father who I admired for his ability to take an idea and make it into a successful venture. Necessity made me join the corporate world for years until The Boy’s Store – I completed the circle and came back to where I started with tools and knowledge to help me in the adventure.
How long have you been working from home? In June 2008, I became part of the millions of people that were laid off. I made the decision at that time to work from home in order to be with my children and provide them with the support needed to become strong and self confident adults.
What motivates you? My customers – every time I get the chance to talk to one of them and hear them tell they are so excited to find a store dedicated to boys, my efforts increase exponentially
Tell us about your products:I try to carry a variety of clothing for boys anything from the cartoon style t-shirt to the comple dressy outfit to wear a special occasion or church. Quality is my biggest concern. After spending years making high quality made to order suits for women, I have become a very picky shopper. As a parent I want my children to able to wear that favorite pair of pants until it is too small and then hand on to a cousin, friend …
What are your top picks from your website:Picking just one item is difficult, I chose each one for it’s quality, styling and appeal. Appaman, Dogwood and Wes and Willy are some of the most popular brands with my customers until they discover some of the other choices.
What is your biggest challenge as a MomPreneuer? Finding the time to sleep and enjoy some quiet time. I am a workaholic and relaxing is very difficult for me, especially when I feel (in the back of my mind) that I have not provided all the answers to my customers questions or requests.
What advice can you give to other moms interested in working from home or starting their own business?Keep a positive mental attitude. Don’t hesitate to ask for help and seek advice, it is available and most of us are willing to share. Each step will bring you closer to your goal and/or dream. You CAN do it!!
