Successful Work from Home Mom Series: Interview with Abbey Fatica of Living My Moment
It has been my pleasure to work with and get to know Abbey Fatica of Living My Moment. Abbey and I have quite a few things in common, but my favorite are: Ohio and Jake!
She lives in Ohio (I’m from there) and both of our sons are named Jake. I live in Colorado now and somedays I miss home like crazy! I liked Abbey from the start, but its always even more great to find someone who knows about your “home.”
1. Why did you decide that working from home was right for you and your family?
As soon as I got pregnant, I knew that I wanted to stay home with my kids, but going from 2 incomes to one is very difficult. So after a couple months of being home with Luci and working part time at PF Changs, I knew that I didn’t want to work at Changs forever and I wanted some more fulfilling work that I could do from home. That’s when I began my journey to realizing what would be the best endeavor for me.
2. How did you come up with the idea for Living My Moment?
As a Stay at Home Mom I had watched in the past year as many people are losing their jobs, their houses and their pride. I wanted to be able to do my part as a citizen to help those who have one of the hardest jobs, MoMs. Specifically, I wanted to be able to help those MoMs who run their own business or make their own products. These types of businesses are usually hit the hardest when the economy is bad and I don’t want to see all of their efforts go to waste.
3. How do you balance work with family life, especially with a new baby?
Actually in the midst of answering this question, I had to tend to one of the children. Right now since the baby is still very needy, it is difficult to get as much work done as I used to. When they do sleep at the same time, I sit down and get as much work done as possible in the short time that I have to myself. Once the baby is on a good napping and sleeping schedule, then I will be able to get more work done. Right now, the most important thing right now is my family and getting adjusted to our new life and schedule. Somehow, I do find the time to get a lot of work done and even though somethings take a day or two longer than usual, but I do make sure that it is completed.
4. What does your daily schedule look like?
I don’t have a set schedule right now. But the best time for me to work is between 2-4 and after 8. I, also can answer quick emails throughout the day which is helpful to the business. I also make sure that my weekends are free for just my family. Otherwise, whenever the kids give me downtime, I get work done.
5. What resources do you recommend for moms wanting to start working from home?
Well, I love your site off course (www.reallyworkingfromhome.com) and I also used The Work At Home Woman when I started my business. I recommend learning how to use Facebook and Twitter or any other social networking sites.
6. What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Luci’s birthday is right around Valentine’s Day and I like to make it special. I make cut out valentine’s cookies, and I make sure that she gets presents on Valentine’s Day. Something little and special like Valentine’s Socks, a new little stuffed animal and something else. I feel it is really important to let the kids as well as your husband know how special they are and how much you love them on this special day.
