Interview with Maxine Randall, Speakable Gifts
Tell us about yourself: I am an older mom, homeschooling a seventeen year old who is in eleventh grade, and I have a 29 year old daughter who is married and the mom of my two wonderful granddaughters! My husband is retired and home! I like having him home, though he is having some health issues, unfortunately. I love writing for children, teaching Sunday school, doing logic puzzles, bird feeding (and watching them), blogging, and working on the miscellaneous projects of Speakable Gifts.
Give us a description of your company: We provide miscellaneous gifts and publications which include a spiritual message intended to edify, encourage, comfort, and/or inspire the recipient. For the past several years we have been focusing on publications, especially for young people. But we are currently in transition and switching our focus to gift packages for adults, mostly women and will be working closely with the wedding market.
How long have you been in business? We’ve been online with our publications since 2004. Before that we were doing gift baskets locally.
How long have you been a Christian & share a little about your faith: I didn’t really become a Christian until I had been married for a couple of years. I grew up in a Baptist church, but as a young married woman, I started reading the Bible (which I had not done much of before) and listening to Christian radio. At some point during that time, I realized I was not a true believer, and I repented and flew to Christ for salvation. I have been following Him, though not perfectly, and He has been my only Hope for this life and the next since then.
How has your faith in God inspired and helped grow your business? It is Christ I want to please in all of life, including the business. My daughter and I want this little business to glorify Him. We may not make tons of money, but we want to be in the center of His will and be a blessing to others.
What Advice can you give to other moms thinking about starting their own business? It’s not easy to keep it up, especially if you have little ones. I would say to bathe everything in prayer, take it slowly, bless others as much as you can, and leave the results to God.
Are you willing to allow other Christian moms to contact you if they would like to know more about starting their own business? Yes
What specials can you offer Moms visiting from CMB Resource? We can give a 25% discount on our Bright Gems book. We can offer a 15% discount on one of our new products which will soon be introduced. Three or more of our cassettes for children at half price. (These are great to stick in a gift for a new baby/baby shower.) All they need do is email me with the code “CMBR/SPECIAL”, tell me which item(s), and how they want shipped, and we’ll send a PayPal invoice.

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to getting to know everyone better during the next couple of months.
