Monday’s Mommy Minute ~ Arlene Gianelli
Today’s MMM is brought to us by Arlene Gianelli who is our Educational Consultant for Discovery Toys. She wrote up a wonderful article all about–toys! Be sure to check out my personal blog, Ramblings By Nicole, this week on Wednesday, April 14, as I will be having a review of one of her amazing toys and a $10 GC giveaway to Discovery Toys!
The Importance Of Play
Play is how children learn about the world. A child at play is actually busy learning, exploring, testing, and discovering. A good toy will challenge their thinking, inspire their creativity, stimulate their problem solving, and develop their attention span.
When making your choices, ask yourself the following questions:
1) Can my child play with this toy in several different ways?
2) Is the toy powered by my child’s imagination?
3) Will my child be engaged for more than just a few minutes?
4) Does this product offer genuine learning opportunities?
5) Will this product grow with my child’s developmental stages?
6) Is this product safe, fun, durable and attractive?
In these economic times, it is more important than ever to make sure that our toy dollars are spent wisely. If you buy a toy at the dollar store and it breaks before you even get it home, it is still a dollar wasted. When toys have limited play value, children will get bored with them quickly. These are the toys that get pushed to the back of the closet and become clutter.
Discovery Toys products have multiple layers of learning built into each toy. This means that your child can play with the same toy through several stages of development. As your child grows, the toy continues to offer learning experiences, eliminating the need to replace outgrown toys as quickly. The multiple layers of learning also enable several children in the family to play with the same toy. Each child can play with the same toy in different ways, cutting down on the need for so many toys.
